One inbox, one person reading it. Wren Castellanos handles the mail between studio work, so answers are honest but not always fast.
Who answers?
Wren Castellanos, at [email protected]. She does the caping and repair work at a studio in Alpine and edits the guides on this site.
If a question belongs to Odell or Elias, she forwards it and one of them replies directly, so the answer comes from the person who does that work rather than from a house account.
What we can help with
Field care questions, cape problems, salting and drying schedules, and corrections to anything published here.
- A cape you are worried about, ideally with photographs and how long it has been off the animal
- Salting, draining and shipping questions before you commit to a schedule
- Corrections: if a number on this site is wrong, we would rather hear it from you than from a search result
- Requests for a guide we have not written yet
What we cannot do
We are not a shop, not a lab and not a legal service.
- No appraisals or valuations of mounts, hides or horn
- No identification or paperwork advice for protected, listed or imported species
- No veterinary or public health guidance on diseased animals: that goes to your state agency
- No paid reviews, sponsored placements or link requests
Anything involving regulations goes to Texas Parks and Wildlife or to the wildlife agency in your own state. Rules differ by state and they change.
How long does a reply take?
Two to three days most of the year. Longer between October and January.
Hunting season is also the season all three of us are buried in other people’s animals. If a cape is at risk right now, say so in the subject line and it moves to the front.
